Sous un éclairage différent de celui des études précédentes, le présent ouvrage propose une analyse des structures principales de la phonologie et de la morphologie du soninké, à partir du dialecte parlé à Bakel, au Sénégal. Le cadre théorique utilisé est celui de la théorie des éléments. Il a été néanmoins sensiblement modifié en ce qui concerne, entre autres, le nombre d'éléments prévus pour tenir compte des particularités phonologiques de la langue étudiée. Dans une perspective universaliste, des éléments non pertinents pour le soninké ont été discutés afin de souligner le caractère non fermé de l'inventaire présenté. Les différents types de sémèmes recensés et leur association avec les catégorèmes verbal et nominal ont été le préalable à l'identification des morphèmes et à l'établissement de séquences licites sémantiques et morphémiques. Des résultats originaux ont été obtenus dans le domaine de la détermination nominale et dans celui du système verbal. Bien que ce travail soit essentiellement synchronique, des propositions ont été faites sur les scénarios d'évolution de certaines catégories du système.
