Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2000 im Fachbereich Ethnologie / Volkskunde, Note: 2,0, Freie Universität Berlin (Institut für Ethnologie), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Tanjung Dua ist ein kleines Fischerdorf an der Peripherie eines der bedeutendsten Wirtschaftsräume Südostasiens im Südchinesischen Meer. Die Ökonomie des Dorfes beruht fast ausschließlich auf der konventionell betriebenen Fischerei, die zwar ökologisch nachhaltig, aber zum Teil wenig produktiv ist. Trotzdem erfreut sich das Dorf eines unvermuteten Wohlstands und einer prosperierenden Wirtschaft, die gerade angesichts der herrschenden Wirtschaftskrise in Asien einige Rätsel aufgab. Neben den natürlichen Ressourcen sind es vor allem die durch soziale Institutionen und Beziehungen geprägten Produktionsverhältnisse, die das wirtschaftliche Verhalten ordnen und regeln. Unter der Annahme der von Marshall Sahlins aufgestellten Thesen zur häuslichen Produktionsweise und ihrer Modifizierung und Erweiterung für die Fischereigesellschaft von Tanjung Dua wird die besondere Form der maritimen Wirtschaftsweise in Tanjung Dua in einen theoretischen Bezugsrahmen gesetzt. Dieser Ansatz erlaubt die Verknüpfung wirtschaftstheoretischer Prinzipien und kultureller Gesichtspunkte, weist aber bezüglich der Dynamik und Transformationsfähigkeit ökonomischer Systeme einige Schwachstellen auf. Im Spannungsfeld zwischen subsistenzorientierter und marktorientierter Produktion ergeben sich Widersprüche und Gegensätze, die sich in der Darstellung verschiedener Produktionssektoren aufschlüsseln lassen und zu einer umfassenderen Bewertung ökonomischer Handlungsorientierung anleiten. Dabei steht die Frage im Vordergrund, ob die Fischereiwirtschaft von Tanjung Dua zukunftsfähig ist, ihre Bewährung und ihr Aufblühen in der Krise ein Zeichen für Nachhaltigkeit oder aber nur ein letztes, gerade durch die Wirtschaftskrise begünstigtes Erheben gegen die Industriefischerei ist. Grundlage der Arbeit ist eine Feldforschung in Tanjung Dua im Sommer
