Alessandro Tassonis heroisch-komisches Epos La secchia rapita (1622) scheint auf den ersten Blick recht einfach strukturiert zu sein: In zwölf Gesängen wird der Krieg zwischen den norditalienischen mittelalterlichen Städten Modena und Bologna um einen Holzeimer geschildert. Was zunächst «nur» wie eine Epos-Parodie klingt, entpuppt sich bei genauerem Hinsehen als vielschichtiges, oft widersprüchliches Spannungsfeld literarischer und wissenschaftlicher Diskurse. Die hier vorgestellte erzähl- und diskurstheoretische Analyse bringt entsprechend die vielfältigen Gattungsbezüge ans Licht und bindet Tassonis poema eroicomico in den zeitgenössischen poetologischen und politischen Kontext ein.
