Ein besonderer Aspekt des Phänomens «Wenders» stellt seine Beschäftigung mit der Literatur und deren Um- und Übersetzung in das Medium Film dar. Handkes Texte bilden hierbei den wohl intensivsten literarischen Bezugspunkt. Die Transformation dieser Texte in das Medium Film, unter Berücksichtigung der medienspezifischen Differenzen und intermedialen Bezüge, ist jedoch bislang kaum untersucht worden. Diese Studie versucht, dieses Thema in der Forschung methodisch, literatur- und filmkritisch zu ergänzen. Auf diese Weise wird am Beispiel von fünf Filmen gezeigt, wie sich ein deutlicher Wandel in Wenders' Verwendung der literarischen Vorlagen vollzogen hat. Die verschiedenen Beziehungen zwischen Wenders' Filmen und Handkes Texten sind offenbar das Resultat von Transformationsprozessen, die eine schrittweise Distanzierung vom «Original» der literarischen Vorlage zur Folge hatten, ohne je auf diese zu verzichten.
