Zbornik obuhvata priloge poznatih južnoslovenskih i nemačkih slavista na temu ljubavi u pojedinim književnim delima i epohama od petrarkizma preko Andrića, Crnjanskog i Krleže do autora koji pišu o nedavnoj balkanskoj krizi. Istorijski luk pokazuje da su bosanska, hrvatska i srpska (crnogorska) književnost u velikoj meri prošle kroz onaj proces kodiranja ljubavi koji je Luhmann opisao za zapadnoevropski kontekst. Kako ljubav spada u centralne topose književnosti, pojedini prilozi sadrže, pored istorijsko-socioloških uvida, i prodorne analize tekstova pojedinih dela. Der Sammelband vereinigt Beiträge namhafter südslavischer und deutscher Slavisten zur Liebesthematik in einzelnen Werken und Epochen vom Petrarkismus über Andrić, Crnjanski und Krleža bis zu Autoren, die über die jüngste Balkankrise schreiben. Der historische Bogen zeigt, dass die bosnische, kroatische und serbische (montenegrinische) Literatur einen weitgehend vergleichbaren Prozess der Liebeskodierung durchläuft, wie sie Luhmann im westeuropäischen Kontext beschrieben hat. Da die Liebe zu den zentralen Topoi der Literatur gehört, bieten die einzelnen Beiträge neben historisch-soziologischen auch eindringliche textanalytische Einsichten.
