Die Arbeit wurde mit dem Rave-Forschungspreis Auswärtige Kulturpolitik 2006 der Alexander Rave-Stiftung des Instituts für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa) in Stuttgart ausgezeichnet. Hegemonie und Kultur – unter diesen beiden Schlagworten wird in der Studie untersucht, welche Rolle die Kultur für die Akzeptanz amerikanischer Außenpolitik hat. Die Hauptthese des Buches lautet dabei: Die amerikanische Kultur, die das 20. Jahrhundert geprägt hat, dient in all ihren Formen als Matrix für den Aufstieg der USA zur globalen Macht. Erst durch die «weiche Macht» Kultur wird die Akzeptanz der amerikanischen Vorherrschaft gesichert, und erst durch diese Akzeptanz wird die Vorherrschaft zur Hegemonie im Wortsinne. Bei der Untersuchung handelt es sich um eine theoretisch-empirische Studie, die basierend auf einem breiten theoretischen Fundament die auswärtige Kulturpolitik der USA unter den o. g. Gesichtspunkten analysiert.
