Das Buch beschreibt den Forschungsprozess, der zu diesen Ergebnissen geführt hat: Es bietet eine aktuelle Bestandsaufnahme der Situation des Fremdsprachenunterrichts in Österreich und stellt diesen in einen europäischen Kontext, diskutiert ein prozessorientiertes Modell von Innovation, beschreibt und evaluiert «alternative» Methoden des Fremdsprachenunterrichts und macht anhand von exemplarischen textlinguistischen Analysen ein Korpus von Bewerbungen und Gutachten zum Europäischen Gütesiegel für innovative Sprachenprojekte in Österreich zugänglich.
