In dieser Arbeit wird das Liedschaffen Maurice Ravels (1875-1937) am Beispiel einzelner Lieder detailliert dargestellt und zum Teil erstmals ausführlich gewürdigt. Aus der Untersuchung ergibt sich eine starke Affinität Ravels gegenüber der Literatur und Lyrik des Fin de siècle, die sich in der Wahl seiner Liedtexte sowie in seinen literarischen Vorlieben offenbart, aber auch auf seine ästhetische Haltung weist. Die vielschichtigen Vertonungen zeigen Ravels Faszination am Spiel mit unterschiedlichen Stilen und sein Bestreben, durch Stilüberblendungen sowie Verfahren der Ironisierung und musikalischen Allusion ein Moment der Verfremdung hervorzurufen.
