Die Qualität des schulischen Wissens ist abhängig von den sprachlichen Handlungsmustern, in denen der Wissenserwerb prozessiert wird. Aus der Kritik der (mathematischen) Kommunikation entwickelt diese Arbeit das Modell eines reflektierenden Lernens, das sich seiner Erzeugung im Diskurs bewußt ist. Die Reflexion besteht zunächst in der Überwindung isolierter Faktenmassen durch ihre Vernetzung zu sinnvollen Einheiten sowie in der Vertiefung des Wissens durch Begriffsbildung. Die Reflexion richtet sich andererseits auf die kommunikativen Handlungsverläufe, in denen das Wissen konstituiert wird, sowie auf die Kritik des Fassadenwissens, in dessen Erzeugung sich die Schule allzu oft erschöpft. Diese These unterstreicht die Bedeutung der Diskursanalyse für eine handlungsrelevante Pädagogik.
