Ihr angestrebtes Bildungs- und Erziehungsziel, den Menschen der Zukunft erziehen und bilden zu wollen, war Ausdruck ihrer humanistisch orientierten Volksbildung und -erziehung. Die durch Reformvorschläge geprägten Modernisierungstendenzen in der Pädagogik und Bildungspolitik waren Teil einer sich langsam entwickelnden Demokratiebewegung. Die aufgenommenen, bisher wenig oder gar nicht zugänglichen Dokumente lassen deutlich werden, mit welcher Intensität, Vielfalt, Breite und Konsequenz die Sozialdemokratie ihre Auseinandersetzungen zur Volksbildung und ihren Schulkampf führte.
