Die epische Erzählung Ovids ist bisher noch nicht in eingehenden Studien zu den einzelnen Büchern der Metamorphosen kommentiert worden, obwohl dieser Zugang zu einer systematischen Erforschung des Werkes und seiner Struktur beitragen kann. In dieser Arbeit, die das zentrale Buch (8.) der Metamorphosen in den Mittelpunkt der Betrachtung stellt, wird versucht, die Merkmale der Erzähltechnik des Dichters aufgrund von aktuellen narratologischen Studien in zwei Richtungen zu erläutern: einerseits so, wie sich diese Technik an einzelnen, thematisch voneinander in gewissem Sinn differenzierbaren Segmenten des Buches dokumentiert, und andererseits im Zusammenhang mit dem literarischen Kontext dieser Segmente - dem Buch als Ganzem, dem Werk wie auch den anderen Dichtungen Ovids und der früheren und zeitgenössischen antiken Literatur.
