Die Arbeit untersucht die mittelalterliche Bibliothek der ehemaligen prämonstratensischen Reichsabtei Weißenau bei Ravensburg. Dabei wurde ein aktueller Katalog der heute weit verstreuten Handschriften (von Princeton bis St. Petersburg) erstellt. Das Buch präsentiert die in Weißenau entstandenen Codices und vermittelt damit ein Bild des Skriptoriums, von Schreibern und Malern. Mit der Einbeziehung der Wohltäter des Klosters sowie der äußeren und inhaltlichen Merkmale Weißenauer Handschriften spiegelt es Geschichte und Besonderheiten der Bibliothek wider. Erstmals wurden hierfür die Codices in St. Petersburg eingesehen. Zahlreiche, bisher zum Teil noch nicht publizierte Abbildungen, vor allem aus St. Petersburg und Prag, ergänzen den Text.
