Das Buch bietet eine systematische Darstellung der allgemeinen und speziellen Neurosenlehre aus der Sicht der Transaktionsanalyse und vergleicht in jedem Kapitel der speziellen Neurosenlehre die theoretische Position der Psychoanalyse mit dem Neurosenkonzept, wie es sich aus der theoretischen Konzeption der Transaktionsanalyse ergibt. Des weiteren wird praktisch-therapeutisches Vorgehen sowohl für Kriseninterventionen als auch für längerfristige Psychotherapie vermittelt. Die einzelnen Krankheitsbilder werden in einen mythologisch/anthropologischen Kontext gestellt, womit ebenfalls ein Bezug zu einer alten psychoanalytischen Grundkonzeption hergestellt wird, wie sie etwa heute in der analytischen Psychologie C.G. Jungs vertreten wird. Das Buch wendet sich an Ärzte, Psychologen und Psychotherapeuten, ist aber ebenso von Interesse für Sozialarbeiter, Suchttherapeuten und Heilpädagogen.
