Umweltbildung in Deutschland präsentiert die Ergebnissse einer breit angelegten empirischen Studie, die von der FU-Berlin im Auftrag der Deutschen Bundesstiftung Umwelt durchgeführt wurde. Zunächst wird die Umweltbildung im Hinblick auf die regionale Verteilung der Bildungseinrichtungen, ihr Programm und ihre Zielgruppen untersucht. Anschließend rücken Fragen der Kooperation, Akzeptanz und regionalen Verankerung in den Blickpunkt. Zwei weitere Kapitel stellen die Organisation, Bewirtschaftungs- und Trägerstrukturen sowie die Qualifikation und Professionalität der Mitarbeiter in den Mittelpunkt. Ein gesondertes Kapitel widmet sich den Zukunftswerkstätten und Qualitätszirkeln und behandelt eingehend die Perspektiven und Chancen der Umweltbildung aus Sicht der Akteure. Auf der Basis der empirischen Befunde werden schließlich die Trends und Perspektiven bestimmt und Empfehlungen für die gezielte Weiterentwicklung dieses Bildungssektors gegeben. Auch in der Umweltbildung ist dies spürbar: In den vergangenen 15 Jahren hat sich die Zahl und Dichte der außerschulischen Umweltbildungseinrichtungen stetig vergrößert. Darüber hinaus hat die Nachhaltigkeitsdebatte für die Umweltbildung eine enorme Erweiterung ihres Handlungsfeldes ergeben. Die Freie Universität Berlin hat im Auftrag der Deutschen Bundesstiftung Umwelt erstmalig in einem Großprojekt eine umfassende Bestandsaufnahme und Evaluation des gesamten Feldes durchgeführt. Nicht nur die Zahl der Einrichtungen, ihr Angebot und ihre Zielgruppen waren hierbei von Interesse. Untersucht werden zudem die Organisations-,Bewirtschaftungs- und Personalstrukturen, die regionale Verankerung, Nachfragesituation und zukunftsperspekiven in diesem Bereich.
