Hans-Jürgen Gevatter absolvierte ein Studium des Maschinenbaus und der Elektrotechnik an der TU Braunschweig. Nach der Promotion war er als Entwicklungsingenieur tätig, dann als Technischer Geschäftsführer in der Industrie. Nach einer Honorarprofessur für das Lehrgebiet Bauelemente der Regelungs- und Steuerungstechnik der TU Braunschweig folgte 1985 die Berufung an die TU Berlin, Lehre und Forschung auf den Gebieten der Geräteelektronik, der Sensortechnik und der Mikrosystemtechnik. Professor Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Grünhaupt war nach dem Studium der Nachrichtentechnik an der TU Berlin wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am dortigen Institut für Feinwerktechnik. Promotion über Laser-Messtechnik in hochdynamischen Servosystemen. Industrietätigkeit bei der Robert Bosch GmbH in der Entwicklung Breitbandkommunikation, als Projektleiter für optische Übertragungskomponenten und als Produktmanager für optische Übertragungssysteme. 1995 Berufung an die FH Karlsruhe auf das Lehrgebiet Elektronik mit Schwerpunkt Optoelektronik.
