Festkorperphysik ist viel zu interessant, urn sie allein den Physikern zu uberlassen. Denn vor der Untersuchung der physikalischen Eigen schaften von Festkorpern steht ublicherweise deren Herstellung, wo mit wohl in der Regel die Chemie befaBt ist. Leider hort jedoch das Verstandnis des Chemikers fur die Eigenschaften einer Substanz oft dort auf, wo sie fur einen Physiker interessant zu werden beginnen. Ein Grund hierfur liegt in einer "Sprachbarriere" zwischen Physik und Chemie, da der Chemiker wichtige festkorperphysikalische Begriffe ent weder uberhaupt nicht kennt oder nur eine sehr verwaschene Vorstel lung von ihnen hat. Das Studiurn von Lehrbuchern der Festkorperphysik oder der Besuch einer Vorlesung, urn diesem Mangel abzuhelfen, ist fur einen Chemiker ein har tes Brot: Die physikalische Denk- und Darstellungsweise mit ihrer Vor liebe fur mathematische Ausdrucksformen ist fur den Nichtphysiker oft befremdend. Er erhalt den - sicherlich falschen - Eindruck, Festkor perphysik sei etwas sehr Kompliziertes, das man gar nicht erst zu ver stehen versuchen solI.
