Den Kern des vorliegenden Buches bilden empirische Untersuchungen zu den sozialen Netzwerken von Kindern in den ersten fünf lebensjahren. Das Forschungsprojekt geht von einem an der ökologischen Entwicklungs- psychologie orientierten Ansatz aus. Dem empirischen Teil ist eine Diskussion theoretischer Grundlagen und eine Aufarbeitung des Forschungsstandes vorangestellt. Die Analyse der wissenschaftlichen literatur wird ergänzt durch Daten aus amtlichen Statistiken, die Vermutungen über einen tiefgreifenden epochalen Wan- del bekräftigen. Das Forschungsprojekt zur sozialen Welt deutscher Kin- der rekonstruiert das Beziehungsgeflecht und seine Veränderung zwischen dem ersten und sechsten lebensjahr. Es entwirft auf der Grundlage eines ökopsychologischen Modells die soziale Entwicklung von Kindern unter den spezifischen Gegenwartsbedingungen. Die empirischen Arbeiten umfassen die Entwicklung und Erprobung eines Erhebungsinstrumentariums, eine re- präsentative Stichprobenbildung für Nordrhein-Westfalen sowie die Aus- wertung und Darstellung der Ergebnisse. Eine Diskussion zentraler Be- funde und Folgerungen für weiterführende Forschungstätigkeiten schlie- ßen die Arbeit ab. Das Buch ist die stark gekürzte Fassung einer Habilitationsschrift, die der Philosophischen Fakultät der Universität Düsseldorf im Juni 1982 vorgelegt wurde. Insbesondere auf ausführlichere theoretische Ableitun- gen und auf die umfangreiche Datendokumentation mußte verzichtet werden. An einigen Stellen würde der Text ergänzt, um neuere Entwicklungen zu berücksichtigen.
