Das vorliegende Bueh maeht deutlieh, wie sehr sieh in den letzten Jahren die Aufgabenstellung der Krankengymnastik erweitert hat. Mit der Aufgabe der Geburtsvorbereitung hat die Krankengymnastik das Arbeitsfeld verlassen, das ihr den Namen gegeben hat. Krankengymnastik besehdinkt sieh nieht mehr aussehlieBlieh auf Kranke oder Gymnastik im Rahmen der Naehsorgetherapie. Diese Aufgabenerweiterung vollzog sieh durehaus saehlogisch. Von der physiotherapeutischen Nachsorge bei Patienten der Chirurgie und der Ortho padie war es ein selbstverstandlicher Schritt hin zur Riiekbildungsgymnastik im Woehenbett. Und als zunehmend Geburtsmethoden wiederentdeckt wur den, bei denen die AktiviHit der Sehwangeren wieder gefordert wurde, muBte eine solche AktiviHit fachkundig angeleitet werden. Diese Aufgabe wurde weitgehend von Geburtsvorbereitern iibernommen; es sind Entspannungsiibungen nach den verschiedensten Methoden (z. B. Read, Lamaze), Atmungsiibungen in Verbindung mit entspreehenden Gymnastikpro grammen, durch die eine optimale und individuelle Geburtsvorbereitung der Sehwangeren gewahrleistet wird. Die sorgfaltige, ausfUhrliehe und verstandliche Darstellung dieser Ubungen zeichnet das vorliegende Buch aus; aber es bleibt dabei nieht stehen. Vielmehr wird Ernst gemaeht mit der Erkenntnis, daB die Ubungen zur Geburtsvorberei tung nur dann richtig angeleitet werden k6nnen, wenn der Geburtsvorbereiter ein solides Wissen von den anatomischen und physiologischen Grundlagen be sitzt. Die entspreehenden Kapitel sind verstandlieh und dabei sehr ausfUhrlich dargestellt. Dureh die prazise und fundierte Auseinandersetzung mit der Ge burtsvorbereitung kann das vorliegende Werk aueh fUr die arztliehe Weiterbil dung empfohlen werden. SchlieBlieh macht dieses Buch auch den nachsten - vielleicht letzten - Sehritt der Erweiterung des Arbeitsfeldes deutlieh: Den Sehritt zur Beratung.
