1m dermatologischen und pharmakologischen Schrifttum der letzten lahrzehnte findet sich keine umfassende Ubersicht uber Methoden und Ergebnisse pharmakologischer Forschung im Bereich der derma- tologischen Lokaltherapie. Dem steht eine groBe Fulle von Original- arbeiten gegenuber. Die vorliegende Monographie stellt einen Ver- such dar, einen Uberblick uber den Stand der Forschung in diesem Bereich zu bieten. Lucken sind dabei wegen des groBen Umfangs der Literatur und wegen der Breite des Themas nicht zu vermeiden. Ich hoffe, daB das Werk all denen, die sich wissenschaftlich mit der Pharmakologie dermatologischer Extema befassen, einen Nutzen bringt, gleichgiiltig ob es sich urn Dermatologen, Pharmakologen, Pharmazeuten oder Chemiker handelt. Ich k6nnte mir aber auch vorstellen, daB es dem praktizierenden Dermatologen hilfreich sein k6nnte. Zwar eignet es sich sicher nicht dazu, dem Anfanger thera- peutische Anleitungen zu geben. Es k6nnte aber dem erfahrenen The- rapeuten erm6glichen, seine therapeutischen Gewohnheiten in dem einen oder anderen Fall zu modifizieren und mit dem Stand der wissenschaftlichen Forschung in Ubereinstimmung zu bringen. Ge- wicht wurde auch auf die Darstellung der wissenschaftlichen Grund- lagen der Kosmetik gelegt, da sich im kosmetologischen Schrifttum zahlreiche Publikationen finden, die auch fUr die Dermatologie von Bedeutung sind und da in der Literatur der jungeren Zeit auch dazu eine zusammenfassende Ubersicht fehlt. Zu groBem Dank verpflichtet bin ich zahlreichen Pers6nlichkei- ten, die zu der Entstehung des vorliegenden Werkes direkt oder indi- rekt beigetragen haben. Herr Prof. Dr. W.
