Diese Operationslehre dient der unmittelbaren Information der auf dem speziellen Gebiet der Herz- und GefaBchirurgie tatigen Opera tionsschwester. Es wurde versucht, die einzelnen Operationsverfah ren in ihrem chirurgischen Ablauf in knapper und verstandlicher Form darzulegen. Pathophysiologie und Klinik der angeborenen und erworbenen Herzfehler sowie der GefaBerkrankungen erfuhren nur soweit eine Erwahnung, wie es fUr das Verstandnis des Operationsablaufes notwendig erschien. Es kann die Hauptaufgabe dieser Operations lehre nur darin bestehen, die verschiedenen Operationsverfahren im Grundprinzip aufzuzeigen, da in den einzelnen Herz- und gefaBchi rurgischen Zentren Unterschiede bestehen, sowohl den Opera tionsablauf als auch z. B. das Nahtmaterial betreffend. Der Text i~t moglichst kurz und pragnant gehalten, urn in Kombination mit den Abbildungen eine rasche Orientierung zu ermoglichen. Dank schulde ich Herrn Gattung fUr die Zeichnungen, die in kiinstlerisch ausgewogener Vereinfachung das wesentliche hervor heben. Dem Verlag danke ich besonders fUr seine GroBziigigkeit, den Text ausreichend mit Abbildungen versehen zu haben. Text und Bild zusammen ermoglichen erst das Verstandnis fUr die besonders am Herzen teilweise komplizierten Operationsablaufe.
