Es gibt viele Griinde, die die Bangsche Krankheit der Aufmerksamkeit wert machen. Sie verursacht riesige okonomische Schaden, indem sie den Nutzwert von Rindern, mitunter auch von Ziegen, Schafen und Pferden, fiir lange Zeit herabsetzt, denn alle diese Nutztiere kann die Brucellosis abortus bovis befallen. Sie verursacht lang andauernde Erkrankungen bei in der Viehwirtschaft arbeitenden Personen, die dann sehr lange arbeitsunfahig bleiben, die wiederholt hospitalisiert und kostspielig mit Antibiotica behandelt und fiir die beruflich bedingte Krankheit auch noch ent schadigt werden miissen. Man darf auch die psychologischen Momente nicht unter schatzen, die bewirken, daB die landwirtschaftliche Bevolkerung die Arbeit in den Stallungen und in der Viehwirtschaft ablehnt, so daB Fiitterer, Melker und Vieh ziichter nur aus den Reihen der am wenigsten intelligenten Arbeiter herangezogen werden konnten, was sich wieder in der Qualitat der Arbeit und der Arbeitshygiene widerspiegelte. Talentiertes und qualifiziertes Personal verwies auf die schlechten hygienischen Verhaltnisse, die primitiven Arbeitsbedingungen, und lehnte es ab, unter dem unnotig hohen Erkrankungsrisiko zu arbeiten. Die Zeiten, in denen die Bangsche Krankheit fiir eine belanglose Krankheit ge halten wurde, sind schon lange vorbei. Die Erzahlungen der alten praktischen Tier arzte, die einst mit Stolz von ihrem "Bang" erzahlt haben, wurden namlich durch eine Periode abgelOst, in der sich die Brucellose zu einer abschreckenden Drohung entwickelte, die bedeutend dazu beigetragen hat, daB die Zahl des arbeitswilligen Personals in der Viehwirtschaft sinkt. Wir waren uns all dieser Umstande schon vor 15 Jahren wohl bewuBt.
