Die Messung des zentralen Venendrucks bei Patienten im Schock hat in letzter Zeit immer groBere diagnostische Bedeutung gefunden. Wahrend die klinischen Schockzeichen (wie BlaBe, cyanotische Haut, kalter SchweiB, niedriger Blutdruck und erhohte Pulszahl, sowie die Ein schrankung der stundlichen Urinausscheidung vorwiegend den Funktions zustand des Hochdrucksystems widerspiegeln, zeigt der zentral-venose Druck den Funktionszustand der KapazitatsgefaBe des "Niederdruck systems" an und erlaubt Ruckschlusse auf den Fullungszustand des Kreis laufes. Die GroBe des zentralen Venendrucks ist jedoch mehrdeutig, insbeson dere, wenn cardiale Komponenten darauf einen zusatzlichen EinfluB nehmen. Die Sektion "Venendruckmessung" des Mainzer Symposions yom 13. und 14. 0 kto ber 196 7 hatte die Aufgabe, die methodischen und diagnostischen sowie differential-diagnostischen Probleme auf diesem Gebiet zu klaren. Der vorliegende Band stellt einen zusammenfassenden Bericht uber diese wissenschaftliche Sitzung dar.
