Vorwort Das vorliegende Buch fiihrt den Leser in die relationale Datenbankwelt des OS/2 Extended Edition Database Manager ein. Es wurde bewu6t Wert darauf gelegt, die Grundlagen des relationalen Datenmodells und der Zugriffssprache SQL umfassend zu behandeln. Der OS/2 Extended Edition Database Manager ist hierfUr sehr gut geeignet, da er alle Eigenschaften eines modemen relatio- nalen Datenbanksystems aufweist. Die Praxis der Entwicklung von Datenbankanwendungen zeigt immer wieder, wie wichtig eine systematische Vorgehensweise - insbesondere beim Daten- bankentwurf - ist. Ein wesentliches Ziel des vorliegenden Buches besteht darin, diese Erfahrungen weiterzuvermitteln. FUr Hinweise, Anregungen und sonstige Hilfestellungen danke ich folgenden Personen: H. Laudahn, H. Kopriva, ' H. Lehle, H. Braun, H. Olaf Krieg, Fr. Marion Koster. Besonderen Dank mOchte ich H. Wolfgang Stark fUr das inhaltliche und H.
