Den Stücken Samuel Becketts (1906-1989) haftet noch immer der Hautgout von Krankheit, Verfall und Todesnähe an. Besonders die deutschsprachige Beckett-Rezeption scheint auf solche 'realistischen' Lesarten abonniert zu sein. Becketts frühe Hörspiele werden auch von einem Großteil der englischsprachigen Interpreten auf eine Repräsentationsästhetik festgelegt, die das formale Innovationspotential der Stücke unterschätzt. Becketts Wirkungsästhetik steuert die Publikumsreaktionen nicht nur minutiös, sondern führt diese Manipulationen auch explizit vor. Im Zentrum dieser medialen Selbstreflexionen steht einerseits die Auseinandersetzung mit dem vorgesehenen Aufführungsmedium der Texte. Andererseits fundiert das konzipierte Zusammenspiel zwischen Sprechern/Spielern und dem Publikum eine Form ästhetischer Subjektivität, die sich durch alle Stücke sowie Film- und Fernsehskripte zieht. In Einzeluntersuchungen der Stücke von "En attendant Godot" bis "Play" werden der formale Aufbau und die jeweils stückbestimmenden Spielregeln analysiert. Anhand der Genrewechsel zwischen Dramen, Hörspielen sowie Film- und Fernsehskripten kann unter Bezugnahme auf ausgewählte Inszenierungen der medienspezifische Umgang mit Körper und Stimme dargestellt werden. Diese formalen Bausteine bilden eine variable Ausgangsbasis für die Identifikationsversuche der Figuren/Stimmen und Rezipienten. Die entstehenden Formen ästhetischer Subjektivität beruhen auf dem Dualismus von Darstellung und Wahrgenommenwerden - Selbstdefinitionen eines denkenden oder fühlenden 'Ichs' sind in Becketts Stücken notwendig zum Scheitern verurteilt.
