Die stetig anwachsende Zahl von Neubildungen in nahezu jeder Textart läßt eine systematische Untersuchung dieses Phänomenbereiches überfällig erscheinen. Die bislang eher anekdotischen Ansätze der Forschung weisen neue komplexe Wörter entweder kommentar- und kritiklos den für usuelle Wörter inventarisierten Wortbildungsmustern zu oder erklären sie für prinzipiell kontextabhängig und damit für unsystematisierbar. Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht ein umfangreiches Korpus authentischer Neubildungen auf ihre Bauweisen und auf die Konstitution ihrer Bedeutung -- innerhalb des sie jeweils umgebenden Textes. Es zeigt sich, daß sowohl die Wortbildungsart der neuen Wörter wie auch der Text - durch seine Textualität an sich und durch seine Zugehörigkeit zu einer bestimmten Textsorte - systematisch Einfluß nehmen. Neue Derivationen weisen dabei große Ähnlichkeit zu bereits bestehenden Wörtern auf. Der Kontext beeinflußt ihre generelle Musterhaftigkeit vor allem durch neue lexikalische Füllungen und die Frequenz bestimmter mit einem Affix verbundener Wortbildungsbedeutungen. Nominale Komposita auf der anderen Seite sperren sich vielfach schon im usuellen Wortschatz Zuordnungen zu Mustern. Neue Wörter dieser Bauart zeichnen sich durch eine starke Integration in den Textverlauf aus. Sie können vielfach durch Rückbezug auf vorherige (selten: nachfolgende) Teile des Kontextes verstanden werden. Aus umgekehrter Perspektive tragen sie wiederum stark zur Textkohärenz und damit auch zur Textualität überhaupt bei.
