Bei positiven wie negativen Stellungnahmen zur Bedeutung der Grammatiker des 17. Jahrhunderts im schriftsprachlichen Ausgleichsprozeß handelt es sich zumeist um pauschale Bemerkungen, die konkreter empirischer Nachweise ermangeln. Um den Zusammenhang von Grammatik und Sprachrealitäauml;t verläßlich aufzuzeigen, ist der Verfasser einerseits den Sprachregeln der Grammatiker systematisch nachgegangen und hat andererseits, vor allem durch die Rekonstruktion der sprachlichen Änderungen in mehrfach aufgelegten Drucken einschließlich der Lutherbibel, die textuelle Sprachwirklichkeit in ihrer historischen Entwicklung erfaßt. In der Sprachpraxis werden in den Bereichen Orthographie, Deklination, Konjugation, Wortbildung und Syntax Korrekturen vorgenommen, die im wesentlichen mit der Theorie der Grammatiker üuuml;bereinstimmen. Dies bedeutet aber nicht, daß die Vorschriften der Theoretiker den herrschenden Sprachgebrauch nur nachträglich kodifiziert hätten; die Grammatiker gehen vielmehr in der Rechtschreibung der Sprachpraxis oft und in der Formenlehre vielfach voraus, obwohl sie auch zuweilen den Bezug zur Sprachwirklichkeit verlieren. In der Wortbildung erarbeiten sie deren regelmäßige Strukturiertheit. Die Sprachnormenvorstellungen der gelehrten Theoretiker und der Praktiker decken sich weitgehend; überdies nehmen die Grammatiker auch Einfluß auf die lokale und überregionale Praxis.
