Bitter battles, intrigue, loyalty and betrayal - a fascinating distant world of memorable characters The novel takes place at the time of the Sòng dynasty (960-1279). 107 men and a woman around their leader Sòng Jiāng form the conspiracy of the "flat lakes on the bridge mountain", in which they defend themselves against corruption and stark arbitrariness of the rulers. Their guiding star are traditional values of NeoConfucianism such as the fundamentally benevolent and caring interaction of all people with each other - which does not exclude bitter warlike disputes to their enforcement. The novel captivates with its wealth of actions and persons, and the naturalistic descriptions of social circumstances during the Sòng and outgoing Yuán period, such as food and drinking culture, urban life, housing, family relationships, but also warfare, gender relations, hierarchies, prisons in the prisons. Lyrical passages of captivating imagery conjure up nature impressions or present the central importance of clothing as an expression of beauty and rank. On around 2000 pages, the Chinese original text is as faithful as possible and easily readable. Knowledgeable commentary and comprehensive explanations of the entire historical, Daoist, Buddhist, neo-Confucian context and image reservoirs complement the wide-ranging plot. This is the first faithful, unabridged translation of the Complete Lore from the Banks of the Rivers (水全), one of the four great classics of ancient Chinese literature. The predators of the Liang Shan Moor, on the other hand, is a heavily shortened translation and takes into account only the first part of the classic.
