English summary: The Moon as a striking celestial phenomenon with its monthly shifting shape has aroused great interest in Ancient Egypt. Victoria Altmann-Wendling draws a detailed picture of the nature and effect of the celestial body personified as a god. This comprehensive analysis is based on all relevant religious inscriptions and representations relating to the Moon. These centrally include texts and iconographic evidence of the Graeco-Roman temples, which provide the most extensive information about the Moon in Ancient Egypt. Papyri, tomb scenes and funerary ensembles offer additional information. The texts are all translated and extensively commented, especially with regard to the underlying astronomical phenomena. The accompanying depictions are analysed and contextualised.
