تعد نيماتودا تعقد الجذور من الممرضات الرئيسية فـي حقـول إنتاج القطـن فـي العالم، وتسبب تثبيط نمو نباتات القطـن نتيجـة مهاجمتها للمجموع الجـذري وتشكيلها العقـد الجذريـة التي تؤثر فـي امتصاص المـاء والمـواد الغذائيـة،وزيادة الحسـاسية لأمـراض البادرات وخطـورة مـرض ذبول القطـن،وتسبب نقصاً فـي الإنتاجية تجـاوز أكثر مـن75%.ويعد مرض ذبول القطن الذي يسببه فطر فيرتيسليوم الأكثر أهميةً من حيث الخسائر التي يلحقها بمحصول القطن في الدول المنتجة،حيث بلغت في دول الكومنولث حوالي 25-30%في العديد من الحقول، وسجل80%منها في أوزبكستان. تعتبر مكافحة النيماتودا والفطور الممرضة في حقول القطن المصابة ضرورية لتجنب انخفاض الإنتاجية.وتعد الدورة الزراعية ومبيدات النيماتودا طريقة فعالة،ولكنها غالية نسبياً.لذلك تم اللجؤ إلى طرق الأصناف المقاومة والمكافحة الحيوية لمكافحتها.ونظراً للأهمية الاقتصادية لمحصول القطن والتأثير الضار للنيماتودا في إنتاجيته،وتفاعل نيماتودا التعقد وفطر الذبول الذي يشكل المشكلة الأهم في القطن المروي في كل الحقول السورية،وسبب خسائر اقتصادية كبيرة في السنوات الأخيرة،بالإضافة إلى ندرة الدراسات المرجعية ذات الصلة على القطن في سورية،من هنا تأتي أهمية هذا البحث في توفير المعلومات اللازمة لتحديد التأثيرات المختلفة لرسم استراتيجات إدارة هذه الممرضات وتجنب الخسارة في الإنتاج مستقبلاً في حقول سورية
