Description

Wind farm investments have recently attracted great attention throughout the world due to being an economical way of producing renewable energy. Moreover, the wind farm installations are expected to increase in the following decades due to the accelerating demand on wind power for electricity generation. Unfortunately, the increasing deployment rates of wind farms bring along with a great need for the detailed investigation of their effects on the performance of radar systems. Due to having electrically large dimensions and rotating blades, wind turbines have been known to violate radar operations via causing some deteriorating effects such as false alarm, clutter, breakage of genuine targets’ tracks, shadowing, image blurring and so on. In this book, a comprehensive description of wind turbine effects on the detection, tracking and imaging performances of different radar services is presented. Furthermore, some of approaches for wind turbine clutter mitigation are also introduced for pulse-Doppler radar systems. The examinations and presented mitigation procedures could be utilized in forming baselines and constituting frameworks dealing with the wind turbine-based deteriorations.
