He served as Chair of the Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain and was subsequently elected as an Honorary Vice President. In his efforts to build bridges to the mainstream educational research communities he co-founded and for several years convened the philosophy of education network of the European Education Research Association and the philosophy of education Special Interest Group of the British Education Research Association.
