About the Author Professor D Cristina Stefan MD, MMED, FCP, CMO, MSc, PhD is the vice president of the South African Medical Research Council. She is a pediatrician by profession, who later trained as an oncologist. She is a visiting Senior Research Associate in the Nuffield Division of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, University of Oxford (UK), Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Science, as well as a senior research fellow of the International Prevention Research Institute in Lyon, France. She is the first woman elected as a president of the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer.
