Gender Medizin ist eine noch junge Wissenschaft. Sie hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, bislang entwickelte Forschungsfragen, Diagnose- und Therapieansätze durch einen geschlechtssensiblen Blick auf Gesundheit und Krankheit aus biologischer und psychosozialer Sicht zu ergänzen. Erstmals im deutschen Sprachraum wird die Gender Medizin aus der Sicht von unterschiedlichen klinischen Fachbereichen, wie etwa Kardiologie, Rheumatologie, Intensivmedizin und Psychiatrie, sowohl wissenschaftsorientiert als auch praxisrelevant aufbereitet. Geschlechtsspezifische Forschung wird hierbei im Hinblick auf verbesserte und optimierte Prävention, Diagnostik, Früherkennung, Therapie und Rehabilitation dargestellt. Neben der systematischen Übersicht aus der jeweiligen Fachliteratur werden aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse mit praktischen Tipps und Ratschlägen verknüpft. Für die zweite Auflage wurden Kapitel zu den Fachgebieten Urologie, Radiologie und Pharmakologie neu verfasst. Die anderen Beiträge wurden komplett überarbeitet und dem aktuellen Wissensstand angepasst.
