Esta obra tiene como objetivo fundamental profundizar en las relaciones y en los límites que existen entre la sintaxis, la morfología, el léxico, la semántica y la pragmática del español, lo cual se desarrolla a través de diez capítulos escritos por especialistas, en los que se abordan estas relaciones a partir de temas concretos. El libro está estructurado en tres secciones: en la primera se analizan las relaciones entre el léxico, la morfología y la sintaxis, en particular se estudian los límites difusos entre las categorías gramaticales, se analizan los verbos pseudocopulativos y la delimitación entre los compuestos y las aposiciones, en este último caso a propósito de las relaciones entre la morfología y la sintaxis. En la segunda sección se abordan las relaciones entre la sintaxis, la semántica y la pragmática a través del estudio de los adverbios oracionales, del significado superlativo de las locuciones cuantitativas formadas con el esquema <hasta + SN> o de las construcciones que tienen un sustantivo como núcleo. Por último, en la tercera sección se analizan las relaciones entre la semántica y la sintaxis a través de los tiempos y de las perífrasis verbales.
