De Gruyter The Flower of Suffering: Theology, Justice, and the Cosmos in Aeschylus’ ›Oresteia‹ and Presocratic Thought: 97 (Trends in Classics - Supplementary Volumes, 97)

Greek tragedy occupies a prominent place in the development of early Greek thought. Yet, its connection to the Presocratic tradition remains at the periphery of current interest. This book shows how Aeschylus Oresteia in its own dramatic language represents a fundamental contribution to early philosophical speculation about the divine, human attitudes towards it, and the human place in relation to the cosmic forces which govern the universe.
