Den Vortritt hat Lukas, dessen Texte oft, aber nicht immer, ein älteres Überlieferungsstadium aufweisen als die des (als Verfassergruppe anzusehenden) Matthäus. Gegenläufig dazu weisen viele Lukastexte, bes. die Wirtschaftsgleichnisse, Modernisierungen auf, die das Erzählte in die provinzrömische Welt übertragen. Sie spiegeln ein konkretes gesellschaftliches Geschehen wider, dessen Regeln oftmals andere waren als die heute üblichen. Noch mehr gilt das von den im Mt-Ev. gemachten, eher orientalischen Voraussetzungen. - Über das heute Gültige informiert vergleichshalber Susanne Benöhr-Laqueur am Ende jeder Perikope. Ein Beitrag von eigenem Gewicht ist die rechtshistorische Analyse der neutestamentlichen Berichte vom Prozess Jesu durch Martin Pennitz. Deren jeder stellt, abgesehen von literarischen Ausschmückungen, ein nach römischem Recht korrektes oder zumindest mögliches Verfahren dar.
