Im Zuge dessen analysiert sie detailliert 24 wegweisende Theorien. Gleichzeitig greift sie das gegenwärtig besonders produktive Theoriefeld der kognitiven Metapherntheorie als eigenständigen Diskursstrang auf und stellt die Verbindung zu historischen Diskursen her. Alle Theorien werden in Beziehung zueinander gesetzt und hinsichtlich ihrer Fruchtbarkeit für die Literaturwissenschaft diskutiert.
