Johann Georg Heinrich Feder (1740-1821) zählte zu den prägenden Philosophen und Publizisten der europäischen Aufklärung zwischen 1770 und 1800, und zwar sowohl innerhalb weiter Teilbereiche der Universitäts- und Schulphilosophie als auch im Zusammenhang literarischer und popularphilosophischer Diskurse der sich entwickelnden Öffentlichkeit. Feder nahm entscheidenden Einfluss auf wichtige Debatten, Kontroversen und Forschungsentwicklungen seiner Zeit. Von seinem immensen Einfluss auf die akademische und populäre Philosophie ist allerdings zumeist nur die berühmteste Auseinandersetzung, seine mit Christian Garve verfasste Rezension der „Kritik der reinen Vernunft", zur Kenntnis genommen worden.Dabei ist weder Feders Auseinandersetzung mit Kant auf die Rezension der KrV beschränkt, sondern vielmehr bis in die 1790er Jahre zu verfolgen, noch ist Feders gesamtes Werk und dessen Wirkung auf diese Kontroverse zu beschränken.Der Band versammelt Studien von Philosophen, Literaturwissenschaftlern und Wissenschaftshistorikern zu allen Werkbereichen Feders, insbesondere zur lange Zeit vernachlässigten Erkenntnistheorie und Psychologie sowie zu seinen weitgehend unbekannten Beiträgen zur Theologie, zur Ethik und zur Rechtsphilosophie.
