Die sandinistische Revolution führte zwischen 1977 und 1990 zu einem Boom transnationaler Solidarität mit Nicaragua. Allein in der Bundesrepublik engagierten sich zeitweise über 300 Gruppen aus dem linken Spektrum sowie aus christlichen und liberalen Kreisen für die Ziele der Sandinisten.Ein Schlüssel zum Verständnis der Nicaragua-Solidarität liegt im erfolgreichen Aufbau eines transnationalen Netzwerks, über das Informationen, mentale Bilder und Aktivisten zwischen beiden Ländern zirkulieren konnten. Besonders die Vorstellungen, die unter den Solidaritätsbewegten zu Nicaragua kursierten, entfalteten ein enormes Identifikations- und Motivationspotenzial. An der Konstruktion solcher Projektionen waren die Sandinisten durch ihre intensive transnationale Öffentlichkeitsarbeit maßgeblich beteiligt. Mit Praktiken wie der Projektförderung oder den Solidaritätsbrigaden ermöglichten sie den Aktivisten, selbst an der sandinistischen Revolution teilzuhaben bzw. ihre Gefährdung durch die Politik der US-Regierung persönlich zu erfahren.Basierend auf Archivrecherchen und Interviews in Deutschland und Nicaragua untersucht die Dissertation transnationale Netzwerke und Praktiken der Solidarität unter besonderer Berücksichtigung nicaraguanischer Agency.
