For twenty years, Zurich has been undergoing a strong change: industrial areas are becoming new residential quarters, and in garden city quarters soft rows of houses from the post-war period replacement new buildings on a large scale. This creates a remarkable diversity in residential buildings, many of which arouse international interest. A defining figure of this unique residential building offensive is the architect Adrian Streich. Since he was able to build the Werdwies urban housing estate in the early 2000s after an architectural competition, he has enriched housing construction in Zurich - but not only there. It brings new yet familiar urban images, designs robust and sophisticated floor plans and works intensively on solid and sustainable constructions. Eye-catching is the care with which he treats the communal development rooms - stairs, loggias, terraces - of his residential buildings, such as the second building of the cooperative Kraftwerk1 or the cooperative house in the Greencity. Commemorating spatial organization and social encounter is also one of the schoolhouses that Adrian Streich has been able to build and project in recent years. This first monograph on Adrian Streich Architects shows 27 buildings and projects in detail with photos, plans, and descriptive texts. In an essay, architectural theorist André Bideau characterizes the architect's work, and editor Axel Simon talks to Adrian Streich about the challenges and insights hidden behind his buildings.
