Die Wiederveroffentlichung von Felix Kleins "Vorlesungen iiber das Ikosaeder und die Auflosung der Gleichungen vom fiinften Grade" ent spricht der standig wachsenden Nachfrage nach diesem Werk, das vor mehr als hundert Jahren in Leipzig erschien. Ein Gutteil des Interesses an Kleins Buch diirfte sicher auf die ungebrochene AktualWit von "Iko saedermathematik" zuriickzufiihren sein, d. h. von Mathematik, in der die Geometrie und Symmetrie des Ikosaeders, wie auch die der anderen Pla tonischen Korper und der reguliiren Polygone, eine wesentliche Rolle spie len. In dieser Hinsicht seien die folgenden Entwicklungen in den letzten zwanzig Jahren genannt: Das Studium der sogenannten Kleinschen Sin gularitaten, auch als Du-Val-Singularitaten, rationale Doppelpunkte oder einfache Singularitaten bekannt (vgl. z. B. DuVal [1934], M. Artin [1966], Brieskorn [1968], [1970], Arnol'd [1972] oder die Ubersichtsartikel von Ar nol'd [1974], Brieskorn [1976], Durfee [1979], Slodowy [1983]), die Unter suchung gewisser elliptischer und Hilbert-Blumenthal-Modulflachen (vgl. Hirzebruch [1976], [1977], Naruki [1978], Burns [1983]), die Konstruktion eines unzerlegbaren Vektorbiindels vom Rang 2 auf dem p4 (Horrocks Mumford [1973]) sowie die Analyse seiner Eigenschaften (vgl. Barth-Hulek Moore [1984], [1987], Barth-Hulek [1985], Decker-Schreyer [1986], Hulek [1986], [1987], Hulek-Lange [1988] sowie den Ubersichtsartikel von Hulek [1989]).
