In der vorliegenden Arbeit stellt der Autor - an Philosophen wie Leibniz, Schelling und Whitehead anknüpfend - die Hypothese auf, dass nicht tote Dinge, sondern lebende Organismen Grund und Ursprung der Welt sind. Leben wäre demnach als grundlegendes Prinzip gesetzt und das Tote wäre diesem als erschöpftes Leben, das seine Vielfalt und Komplexität verloren hat, nachgeordnet. Die theoretischen Konsequenzen einer solchen organismischen Weltsicht sind vielfältig und werden der Reihe nach besprochen. Der Leser wird dabei zu einer spannenden und abenteuerlichen Reise durch wichtige Gebiete der Philosophie eingeladen. Der Autor - zugleich Arzt und Philosoph - zeigt auf, dass diese neuen Wege des Denkens auch auf der praktischen Ebene vielversprechend sind und beispielsweise mithelfen können, eine «integrative Medizin» zu begründen, welche diesen Namen auch tatsächlich verdient.
