Les textes réunis dans ce recueil traitent des grands changements qu'a connus le français depuis ses origines, en abordant les différents niveaux de l'analyse linguistique dans une perspective diachronique. Parmi l'ensemble des phénomènes étudiés, quelques thématiques ont été plus amplement développées: le verbe, dans ses relations à la phrase et ses compléments mais aussi dans sa sémantique aspectuelle et temporelle, l'oral représenté et ses marqueurs spécifiques en diachronie, le très ancien franancien français et le français classique. Ces recherches présentées lors de la cinquième édition du colloque international DIACHRO (Lyon, octobre 2010) témoignent de l'émergence de problématiques nouvelles dans le champ de la diachronie du français et reflètent la vitalité d'un domaine de recherche aussi actif en France qu'à l'étranger.
