El diccionario es ante todo una obra didáctica: constituye uno de los más importantes instrumentos en el aprendizaje tanto de la lengua materna como de las lenguas extranjeras. La complejidad de los sistemas lingüísticos por una parte, y, por otra, la de la competencia comunicativa y su progresivo desarrollo, hacen que las necesidades específicas de los distintos tipos de aprendientes – derivadas de factores como los diferentes niveles de competencia alcanzados, la edad del discente, los objetivos marcados en el proceso de aprendizaje, la relación existente entre la L1 y la L2, etc. – sean muy variadas. Los estudios que integran la presente obra buscan dar respuesta a diferentes problemas que se plantean en la realización y en la utilización de diferentes tipos de diccionarios: el uso del diccionario en la interpretación y la elaboración de textos, la inclusión de ciertos sectores léxicos en la macroestructura y caracterización del léxico en la microestructura, las actitudes de los discentes ante los diccionarios de aprendizaje. La visión que ofrece el volumen se completa con la perspectiva contrastiva e histórica adoptada por varios autores.
