Challis received his B.Sc. (honors) and Ph.D. from Loughborough University in the UK. He then taught at the University of Birmingham. From there he moved to The Pennsylvania State University, where he is currently a Professor and Director of the Biomechanics Lab. Dr. Challis has served as the president of both the American Society of Biomechanics and the International Society of Biomechanics. He is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology, the American Society of Biomechanics, and the International Society of Biomechanics. His research focus is musculoskeletal biomechanics with a view to developing improved measurement techniques, and understanding the structure and function of the musculoskeletal system.
