This work was compiled to serve as a convenient source that covers a number of techniques (and details of their use) in the rather large field of nanomedicine, with special attention paid to gene delivery. As principal investigators working in the field of nanomedicine, we sought to put together the most current and relevant topics in gene delivery, imaging and evaluation systems. We expect the work to serve very well for scientists and graduate students in the nanomedicine field. It brings together information from various scientific fields, focusing particularly on gene delivery and imaging systems.  About the Author Roderick Slavcev is Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo, Canada. His interests are in genetics, molecular biology, virology and technology transfer. His research focuses on bacteriophage-based biotechnology and includes the use of coliphages to design and construct vectors for the development of novel vaccines, pharmaceuticals and gene delivery systems, and the identification and application of novel phage genomic anti-bacterial genes with potential phage therapy applications. Shawn Wettig is Associate Professor and Director at the University of Waterloo, Canada. His research focuses on the design, synthesis and characterization of novel surfactants with an eye toward their application in drug delivery. His current research projects focus on the study of novel cationic lipid DNA complexes with potential application to genetic therapies, the characterization of novel amino acid derivatives for transthermal drug delivery, and the development of fluorescent surfactants for mechanistic studies.
