Si Heinz Holliger (né en 1939) s’est acquis une réputation mondiale en tant que hautboïste, incitant les plus grands com-positeurs de son époque à écrire pour lui et à renouveler ainsi le répertoire de son instrument, son activité de compositeur est restée longtemps mal connue, surtout hors des pays germaniques. Il apparaît toutefois comme l’une des personnalités dominantes de sa génération, son œuvre, abondante et originale, étant l’une des plus fascinantes de la musique d’aujourd’hui. Dans ce volume, les œuvres de ses diffé-rentes périodes sont étudiées en détail, incluant le grand cycle sur Hölderlin, Scardanelli-Zyklus, et son opéra sur le texte de Robert Walser, Cendrillon. Les études sont signées d’éminents musicologues : Peter Szendy, Roman Brotbeck, Kristina Ericson, Clytus Gottwald, Michel Rigoni et Philippe Albèra. S’y ajoutent quelques textes du compositeur lui-même et un long entretien avec Philippe Albèra. Un catalogue des œuvres clôt le volume.
