L'année 2017 est celle du 70e anniversaire de la création de la maison Dior. C'est en 1947 que Christian Dior présente son premier défilé, marquant la naissance d'une nouvelle silhouette féminine : après l'austérité des années de guerre, la taille cintrée, les jupes amples et les épaules douces dessinent des femmes-fleurs qui incarnent alors l'image même du luxe parisien. Le "New Look" replace Paris comme la capitale de la mode et établit le nom de Dior comme synonyme de haute couture. Le musée des Arts décoratifs, qui possède un exemplaire du fameux Tailleur Bar de 1947 et avait déjà présenté, en 1987, une exposition "Hommage à Christian Dior", célèbre cet anniversaire en organisant une exposition phare dont ce livre est le catalogue. Il montre en détails une sélection de 70 silhouettes créées par Christian Dior et ses successeurs, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons et tout récemment Maria Grazia Chiuri. Spécialement photographiés pour cet ouvrage, ces vêtements sont accompagnés de textes les situant dans leur contexte, de croquis, de photographies de défilés et de réalisations des plus grands photographes de mode, Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, William Klein, Helmut Newton, Patrick Demarchelier, Paolo Roversi, Peter Lindbergh, Mario Testino, Nick Knight… Les textes abordent les thèmes qui ont marqué l'histoire de la maison : la notion de ligne et d'architecture du vêtement, le rapport à l'histoire et à l'art (Versailles et le Petit Trianon, le Second Empire, l'impressionnisme, la Belle Epoque, les Ballets russes, Picasso, Dalì, Pollock…), le déploiement des couleurs, les jardins et l'ailleurs comme sources d'inspiration, et bien sûr les égéries et clientes célèbres de la marque (la duchesse de Windsor, Marlene Dietrich, Grace de Monaco, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Isabelle Adjani, Lady Diana, Marion Cotillard, Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman, Jennifer Lawrence…). Un livre qui offre une magnifique synthèse sur la plus emblématique des maisons de couture françaises et dont la richesse iconographique satisfera les lecteurs les plus avertis.
