Trente ans après sa première parution et à l'aube du nouveau "Prodrome des végétations de France" , il était temps de rééditer la Flore forestière française. La réédition revue et considérablement augmentée (de 1 792 pages à 2 464 pages, 551 nouvelles espèces) présente les nouveaux genres et espèces, leur autécologie, les nouvelles cartes de répartition à partir des données les plus récentes (un peu plus de 6 500 000 données réparties dans environ 390 000 relevés). Chaque espèce est représentée en page de gauche par une illustration croquée sur le vif avec des détails pour faciliter la détermination. En page de droite, on trouve les noms latin et vernaculaire de l'espèce, sa famille et son genre ; les noms en anglais, allemand et néerlandais ; l'étymologie ; la description de l'espèce (avec des notes pour éviter toute confusion entre espèces) ; la carte de répartition ; l'autécologie ; l'écologie ; les habitats actualisés du deuxième Prodrome des végétations de France (PVF2) ; les usages, propriétés médicinales et statuts de protection. Ce guide pratique offre aussi un vocabulaire, une aide à la reconnaissance, des clés de détermination (notamment sur la reconnaissance des ligneux en hiver), des fiches synthétiques illustrées par genre, une bibliographie et deux index (latin et français). L'ensemble de ces informations permettent un diagnostic de terrain efficace, économe et rapide.
