Dans la deuxième partie, l'auteur exprime sa propre position face au rapport entre espace et lieu et entre forme et matériaux, la raison utilitaire et la raison constructive n'ayant jamais suffi, à elles seules, à donner forme à la maison et à la ville. Ni dictionnaire ni encyclopédie, cet ouvrage cherche à combler une lacune : proposer une introduction au projet et à la critique architecturale vue à la lumière de notre époque.
